Each February, we are reminded of the struggles encountered by America’s African-American citizens, and the successes they have continued to achieve as well. February is known as Black History Month in the United States, and the entire month provides time to do some historical analysis about the Civil Rights Movement, as well as remembering the movers and shakers that changed our society during that time. On Saturday, February 4th at 8 PM, you’ll have the opportunity to experience a live musical documentary at NYC’s Apollo called Soundtrack ’63, which will allow you to better understand African-American culture in our society.
Experiencing Soundtrack ’63 will be a bit different than what you might expect when you attend a concert or opera. This show is designed as a musical documentary that features an 18-piece orchestra produced by Brooklyn’s Soul Science Lab. The musical documentary will be filled with protest songs, spiritual songs, and a mix of modern music that represents African-American culture. Soundtrack ’63 kicks off with reflections on the 1963 Civil Rights Movement with the timeline ending with the current Black Lives Matter Movement.
